St. Pierre and Miquelon: The Last French Colony in North America

quote [ About 25 kilometers off the coast of Canada, in the North Atlantic, lies a tiny bit of France. It’s a string of islands belonging to the archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, which—despite being located nearly 4,000 kilometer away from the mainland— are still under French control. These islands represent the last foothold of colonial France in the Atlantic. ]

Not me, but my aunt was born there. So as it happens, she was born a french citizen. When she was an infant, her family moved to Newfoundland (before it became part of Canada and became a British Subject, As a teen she moved to Montreal and became a Canadian citizen. Once married to my uncle, shortly after the war, they emigrated to the US, Detroit, and over the course of time became a US citizen. Imagine that happening now without a few eyebrows raised, being simultaneously a citizen of 4 nations.

it's not a "colony" "still under french control". it is France.
