I've angered my Web God

quote [ Does anyone have any suggestions to help me edit my current website to remove advertising robots and other assorted lines of code? ]

I can learn, point me towards the teachings please.

After an EXTREMELY messy separation with my roommate/webmaster I am left with my website full of advertising banners and links to get into my website that I do not want.

I know nothing of web site development but I am keen to learn, mostly because I've already purchased 3 years of hosting via GoDaddy.

I just started researching my options and was quickly overwhelmed, Joomla? Wordpress?

Coffeecup?

Please help me get my business back in order.

If you're using godaddy, you should have an option in your hosting management/control panel to install wordpress. That will give you a basic blog setup that you can install themes and make posts from. It all depends on what your site is for and what you're trying to do with it.

I've got a offline copy of it, right now the trouble I'm having is uploading it to my domain/their servers.

I'm learning so much. I hope that I can figure this out by tonight.

You want File Management in your control panel. You can upload the zip files to your server and then extract them all.

I've got a zip of a joomla website (mine).

Now I'm trying to figure out how to make the website live again, check it out

My asshole webmaster claims that I need to:

"you need to install the database and link it by code!
transfer servers that is one of the changes
look up move servers with joomla"

Hmhm, as stirred up as your feelings may be, this is exactly what you need to do. (You should try it locally first though, e.g. using XAMPP or something similar).

But the gist of steeles comment is crucial: You're better off using a pre-installed CMS (I guess they offer Joomla among other CMSes) than to clean it up and administer it on your own.
This way, you can concentrate on your page and its content.

If you run a CMS on your own, you need to take care of a lot of technical things which an auto-updated version from your hoster does for you.

If you're talking about a zip of wordpress you should really just use their wizard so it will take care of the database stuff on its own.
