The U.S. targeted ISIS in Afghanistan with one of the biggest non-nuclear bombs in their arsenal

quote [ U.S. forces dropped one of the biggest non-nuclear weapons in its arsenal in a large-scale strike against ISIS in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday, according to Pentagon officials. Officials did not know how many ISIS fighters were killed or if any civilians perished in the attack. ]

Trump must have just found out this bomb existed, and what's the point of having a weapon you're not using?. Especially when you're a War President, a lot of people are saying the greatest War President ever. Many people are saying that.

Yep... take a guy with tiny little hands, a miniscule little wee wee, and show him the biggest fucking bomb you've ever seen. Hilarity ensues...

Hopefully this time they didn't drop it on the wrong people.

Someone said the Kurds called in the wrong coordinates I thought that was part of what the US special forces are suppose to be doing. Having locals control US air power is almost always a mistake.

Those things cost $16 million dollars. Don't tell me you can't afford PBS.

I know you know this, but they don't want to. The federal government is supposed to run post offices, maintain a military, sign treaties (and start wars), establish courts, and print money. Everything else is either states' business or private industry's responsibility. If you are a strict constitutionalist, then you adhere to these fundamental principles. And if you are an originalist, then you want to live in 1780.

Bushie's wars could conceivably have insured the entire country. Think about that for a sec.

It was GBU-43/B, known as the ‘mother of all bombs’ according to the Guardian:

"Designed for destroying underground targets but not itself a deep-earth penetrator weapon, the GBU-43/B has the explosive yield of more than 11 tons of TNT. The massive bomb is dropped from air force planes and detonates before reaching the ground, resulting in an enormous blast radius. Only the Massive Ordnance Penetrator GBU-57, which has never been used in war, is a larger conventional weapon."

So we just have to hope the Massive Ordnance Penetrator never goes off inside the Mother Of All Bombs amirite?

This will actually bust bunkers, unless they are airtight. It's a fuel air bomb. First detonation releases a massive cloud of combustible stuff, second detonation ignites it. The end result is the burning of all combustible air. So, the fuel will reach into the caves for the air.
midden said @ 9:42pm GMT on 13th Apr
A "bunker buster" is designed to penetrate hardened targets through kinetic and/or explosive means. Air-fuel bombs like this can certainly suffocate people in unsealed bunkers, but it is not a "bunker buster."

Point taken.

In this case the will destroy the tunnels as they are dug in sand...but this one does not have a nose cone and is designed to detonate above ground . This not the same one the developed for Iran.
