Poor critters :(

I fucking hate zoos. I know some of them are more humane and educational, but they're all prisons.

I know that the majority of major zoos are staffed by people who genuinely care about the well-being of their animals, but I'm still of the opinion that if you want to see a lion, you should have to go to Africa.

Attenborough made the argument for zoos that they have given us opportunities to study animals in ways we can't in the wild. Obviously the animals we keep there should also live humanely, but I would argue that a wolf that is built to roam for hundreds of km living in an enclosure is being treated poorly.

The last time I went to something like a zoo was in 2004 and I realised that while I'd never go back to one, in many cases that will be the only way future generations will be able to see some animals in the flesh.

I went to Africa and saw a bunch of hippos in Lake Tana and the Blue Nile and it was awesome. There was a group and then the two big ones disappeared under the water and the boat captain was like 'Okay, let's go see the pelicans.' And off we went as fast as that boat would go (not super fast, but faster than a hippo who's had enough).

There's a petting zoo in the park next to my parents place that I like to visit. It's just farm animals and guinea pigs, though. They have a whole bunch of different chickens running around loose.
