Branson/Obama?

And why doesn't the Guardian ever capitalize "NASA" properly?

Capitalization envy.

I'd bet one of them is Branson.

Yeah, me too. The Obama part was just a joke, though, after all the kitesurfing hoopla.

Obama will be too busy running for president of France.

Thus sayeth the Wiki:
The most common capitalization scheme seen with acronyms is all-uppercase (all-caps), except for those few that have linguistically taken on an identity as regular words, with the acronymous etymology of the words fading into the background of common knowledge, such as has occurred with the words scuba, laser, and radar—these are known as anacronyms.
...
Some publications choose to capitalize only the first letter of acronyms, reserving all-caps styling for initialisms. Thus the pronounced acronyms "Nato" and "Aids" are mixed-case, but the initialisms "USA" and "FBI" are capital-only. For example, this is the style used in The Guardian,[64] and BBC News typically edits to this style (though its official style guide, dating from 2003, still recommends all-caps[65]). The logic of this style is that the pronunciation is reflected graphically by the capitalization scheme.

You'd think they would defer to the actual style guide of the organization itself.

also, " One general rule is to avoid
the all-uppercase formulations common in the military for weapon designators (use Scud, not
SCUD) and for exercises. Lowercase is preferred for acronyms (such as comsat), but be aware of exceptions (notably NATO and SIGINT).

Why would they defer to the style guide of someone they are reporting on, especially if different subjects might insist on inconsistent styles? They have their own editorial style guide for internal consistency across all subjects, even if you think their choices are weird.

Can money buy you the right stuff though?
sanepride said @ 6:07am GMT on 28th Feb
In this case apparently yes, it can.
