Israel approves settlement homes following Trump inauguration

quote [ "Now we can build," a Jerusalem official says, as a staunch Israel supporter takes office in the US.

Jerusalem's City Hall approved construction permits for 566 new homes in the East Jerusalem settlements of Pisgat Zeev, Ramat Shlomo and Ramot.

Mr Turgeman said: "I was told to wait until Trump takes office because he has no problem with building in Jerusalem.

"The rules of the game have changed with Donald Trump's arrival as president. We no longer have our hands tied as in the time of Barack Obama."

He said the delay was at the request of Mr Netanyahu in the wake of the 23 December UN Security Council resolution opposing Israeli settlement construction. ]

Netanyahu is almost as happy as Putin.

Dear Israelis,

Most of you seem like pretty cool people. You're governed by fucking asshats, though.

Cheers,
Bleb

PS. You too, Americans.

Most Israelis do seem like pretty cool people, and yet somebody keeps voting for these asshats.

I think you just described every nation.

Well there are still plenty of nations with asshat leaders that nobody voted for (or voted for willingly).

Sad and fucked-up as usual. I still think the best strategy is to force everyone out and deed the whole place to Disney for development into a massive Holy Land theme park. Use the proceeds to fund two small, new states on the opposite sides of the planet for the Israelis and the Palestinians. They both seem perfectly happy with crappy desert land, so it shouldn't be too expensive.

Fuck Disney, just kick everyone out and cover the whole place with an impenetrable dome until they can learn to share their toys like big kids.

But then someone else has to put up with them sulking at the dinner table. Just send them to their rooms. Unfortunately, they don't have rooms, so we can buy them rooms by renting out their toys in the meantime.

Trump invites Netanyahu to Washington

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday invited Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to come to Washington to meet him in February, the Prime Minister’s Office said shortly after the phone conversation between the two.

...
The call between the two came amid speculation regarding possible progress in the proposed relocation of the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Well - this is going to make his stormfront.org contingent happy now isn't it? If I recall correctly, him promising the cessation of all ties with Israel, and Jews in general, were a huge part of why they whipped themselves into a ferver over him to begin with.

Of course, seeing how the way every one of his cult followers have suddenly embraced and started group fellatio sessions with Russia and Putin, the alt-whitepower segment twisting themselves into logical knots to whip their groups into apologist mode wouldn't surprise me in the least either.

I don't think anyone is trying to rewrite history. Obama didn't want settlements built, but that pesky Congress would never let him cut funding or anything like that. He also didn't make it a priority, that's true.

However, under Trump, it's going to get much, much worse. Not only does a Trump administration give tacit if not outright approval to settlement expansion, one of the more public ways of putting pressure on Israel, the UN, is something the US is now trying to extricate itself from.

All evils didn't end under Obama. Many evils are set to escalate, however. There's a difference.

Well, if the numbers cited by the AP are accurate, it's more of a correction/clarification than a re-writing of the past. On the other hand, the numbers are from Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics, so they certainly have plenty of motivation and opportunity to cook the books.
