This is one of my favorite uber-nerdy sites. I used it to figure out how to lace my dress shoes more comfortably, and tie my hiking boots in a way that they don't ever come undone, yet are easy to untie when I take them off. My absolute favorite part is where he talks about the pros and cons of each tying style.

Wow, I didn't expect to find it that interesting!

Holy crap. Just the 'granny knot' info alone might be the most useful thing I've ever seen on internet.

^ this. I've known about this site for years but the granny thing made a significant difference in my life.

I think I'll stick to letting my mother tie mine.

I started putting brass aglets on my laces in college, not knowing what they were called, or that they had ever previously been made out of metal. It's just that the plastic ones would split and then it would become extremely difficult to thread the laces through the holes. There was an abundant supply of small diameter brass tubing in the model and prototyping shop, so it was easy to find the right size and simply superglue brass over the fraying ends. (Pro tip: use some wood glue and tape to first roll up the tips of frayed laces into compact cylinders. Take off the tape once the wood glue is dry, then use the CA glue to hold on the brass. 1/2" is plenty.)

I don't untie my shoes. I tie them once when I get them, then take them off and put them on without untying them.

Looking at the thumb, I just saw long laces. I didn't understand it until I looked at it from the other side of the room.

I found this site a couple years ago when I'd just gotten a new pair of boots, and had a similar reaction of "OMG this guy is the nerdiest guy ever — oh hey how useful!" I'd forgotten about it so I appreciate the reminder.
