John Lewis: Trump Not a ‘Legitimate President’

quote [ Speaking with Chuck Todd, in a Meet the Press interview set to air this Sunday, the civil-rights icon asserted that while he would like to forgive and work with the new president, “it’s going to be very difficult,” because “I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president.” Pressed on that point, the congressman said, “I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.” Lewis also stated that he will not attend Trump’s inauguration. “It will be the first one that I miss since I’ve been in Congress, you cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong.” ]

Trump thinks John Lewis is "All talk, no action."

Reactions To Trump's Attack On John Lewis: ‘Your Ignorance Is Astounding’

I imagine this list will grow:
15 House Democrats to skip Trump’s inauguration

Many people say Trump might be working for Russia, not the US, which would be treason. I don't know, personally, but many, many people have said so, and why wouldn't he just show some kind of proof that he's not?

Well to be, um..."fair", Trump is a rich white guy, so he really doesn't have to show proof of anything whatsoever. Not even that he pays taxes. It's his birthright.

As opposed to, say, this guy.

John Lewis seems to be certain that Trump isn't a legitimate president almost as much as he believes that Bernie Sanders wasn't involved in the civil rights movement.

Lewis did later clarify and walk back his statement about Sanders.

Which was the equivalent of "Page A26 - Correction: last Sunday our newspaper ran with the headline 'JIMMY STEWART CAUGHT RUNNING CHILD PROSTITUTION RING'. This was a typo."

Lewis has been in politics for a while. He knows how to stick the knife in.

Any chance you happen to remember the woman who said the same thing about Obama's community organizer experience on Hillary's behalf back in 2008, i think? I've been racking my brain, but the name won't come to me.

Warming up for Cory Booker's 2020 run already?

I'm not a fan of Cory Booker, but whoever emerges as a possible dem candidate will have a fatal flaw, I'm pretty sure.

So this thought just occurred to me.

1) Trump is putting people in charge of departments and agencies who want to dismantle, or at the very least, weaken them.
2) Nominally, this is in the name of "small government Republicanism".
3) But what if Trump is doing this under instructions of Russia, with the express purpose of destroying the US government from the inside out?

Trump is starting with the lowest approval rating of any President-elect in history. I wonder how he'll spin it? He'd be really popular if it wasn't for half the country being illegal immigrants?

I also wonder what he'll do when his ego can't ignore how awful people think he is. He's a fan of "hitting back," so I'm curious as to what form that will take when Twitter-rants just aren't enough.

Also, Trump has not denied that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990.
sanepride said @ 12:55am GMT on 15th Jan
For the hundredth time, it was 1994, and just rape, not murder.
Also- Here's an exhaustive list of women who have made various sexual assault charges against President-elect Donald Trump.

Maximumtodd is referring to a roast of Bob Saget by Gilbert Godfreid, I believe.

I assumed it was the tired old reference to Glenn Beck, just a little reminder that in Trump's case it's not just a point-making meme, it's real allegations.

Saying that Donny is working for Russia gives him too much credit. I suspect that if he is working for Russia, it's merely an unintended byproduct of working for his own, bloated ego. He is certainly not working for the good of the country.

Best response: "Your ignorance is astounding." - Rep. John Yarmuth, 3rd District, Kentucky
