Washington Post Makes Egregious Cover Photo Error

quote [ As far as typos and editorial errors go, this is a big one, particularly considering the cultural context. The question is: even if it was entirely an innocent mistake, what preconceptions does it indicate? ]

Oops.

A nigger navy would be cheaper, wouldn't it?

Something, something, black people can't swim.

When I was in Navy bootcamp, one day someone came and took all the black kids, and only the black kids, away for a day. They told us it was for swim classes ahead of the big swim test.

They hired the person who tweeted the Pepe meme for Wendy's, eh?

I had to read it a few times before I saw it. My brain autocorrected it, which I assume is what happened to the author of the tweet, too.

I didn't notice what was staring me right in the face, I was trying to get a closer look at the women making up the symbol to see if they were all white.

Glad I wasn't the only one.

It isn't *okay* that they made this mistake, but once someone made it I can see how others missed it.

This is great. People love errors like this, so this will get great exposure and probably drive up the turnout.

So many of the comments at the link are of the "I don't know what the symbols are either, so this is no big deal" variety. And that attitude is how Trump gets to be President.

Reminds me of when I was at the store trying to buy quick disconnect connectors for my garden hose. I waited patiently for a lady who was blocking me as she was also looking for some connectors. I finally asked her what she was looking for and she said she needed a connector like she was holding, only the female one. I told her she was holding the female one and after she argued with me about it for a minute at which point I repeatedly stuck the index finger of my right hand into a circle I had formed with the fingers on my left hand while I said "the male connector goes into the female connector." I was waiting for her to be offended, to laugh, or any sort of reaction. All she said was "oh, I see" and walked away with the connector I had handed her.

"It goes in the female, over and over, and then it sprays all over the place!"

I just think of the arrow as a dick.

Obviously it is a dick and the cross beneath the circle is the target.
