Another year's round of Steam Key giveaways.
… or trades, for that matter.
Get rid of all unused game keys– no strings attached. Because last time I tried this ending up with a locked post I propose announcing + revoking offered games in the comments of this article, thanks to the helpful comment editing mode. Keys get then sent via PM to anyone who requests. (GIF source via archive.org)

Blood Dragon is great.
The fist time I played it I was insanely high and only did headshots. I played for about 1/2 an hour and by the end of that my girlfriend was laughing so hard she was literally rolling on the floor. |

4× Mystery Key Surprise package
… here are 4 keys for games I don't remember – maybe you tell me what it was once you activate those. 1. 2. 3. 4. |
SnappyNipples said @ 4:12pm GMT on 3rd Dec
The key you gave me is Time Mysteries: Inheritance.
|
Paracetamol said @ 4:34pm GMT on 3rd Dec
Ah, ok, then the rest is probably gonna be from some hidden objects game bundle as well.
|
SnappyNipples said @ 5:38pm GMT on 3rd Dec
Is that what they're called now? I sort of lump it in with point and click adventure like Sam & Max or The Dig games one of my favorite genres.

You want the other keys?
Steam categorizes these under “Casual”, I guess. The interactive part of the storyline is usually pretty thin, but it's relaxingly brainless. |
SnappyNipples said[1] @ 6:07pm GMT on 3rd Dec
sure, send them up.
And the games are: Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride Grim Legends 2 Clockwork Tales: Of Glass and Ink |

I wish I had a computer capable of playing anything more graphic intensive than solitaire. Unfortunately, my computer knowledge ends just slightly beyond finding the power button.
It was a sad day when I downloaded Obduction after playing a demo on my work computer. My home computer would barely even load it on the lowest settings. |

That link links to pcpartpicker, which IMO is really what you want to begin with. It's a great site that has a huge variety of custom builds with (mostly) good explanations of how to put them together, but it really shines when you put a parts list together on your own--it will reject parts that have compatibility issues with what you've already put together, and keeps tabs on your power requirements so you can keep your build within your chosen power supply's capabilities.

If you're buying a pre-built computer, there's only a few things you really need to be concerned about.
Processor: As long as you're not getting a laptop processor in the desktop, you should be fine with most of the options out there. The processors that come standard with a lot of pre-builds are generally decent enough. I usually run with whatever Intel chip is decently priced. RAM: Anything 8G or higher is fine for normal use, you'll probably want 16G for games, though. RAM is cheap and easy to upgrade, so you could probably buy something with less than 16G and slot a couple of 8G cards in yourself. Graphics card: This is probably what you'll be mainly concerned with if you want to play games. Unfortunately, most pre-built computers either come with shitty graphics cards, or are stupidly expensive. Upgrading here is a bit more complicated, as graphics cards can get pretty pricey. They can also get pretty large, so you'll have to make sure that your motherboard/case size can handle whatever upgrade you want. Honestly, for this part you'll probably want to get some 1-on-1 advice. The main thing to note is that fancy computers can get really expensive, but you absolutely don't need to spend that much to get something that will run most games passably. |

I used to keep up with technology a little more, hell I was a comp sci major for a year. Then I had about a decade without the time or resources to pay attention, so I have no idea about the going specs now. My method of computer shopping was to buy the ultimate, top of the line options and ride it till the wheels fell off. My last desktop had the, just released, Windows XP. It finally finished biting the dust a few months ago, and my current computer is an 'acquired' throw away from a closet at work.
Unfortunately, I can't afford a stick of RAM at this point much less a decent graphics card. Also, I have little motivation since my current location doesn't have any options for what most would consider a functional Internet connection. I hope to be in a better position at some point, when I'll throw myself at the feet of the SE computer experts for appropriate advice. |
Paracetamol said[1] @ 3:48pm GMT on 3rd Dec
Mhh, some of these have pretty low specs – using an older PC myself. [Edit:] You can check the specs on the Steam pages, I guess.

No. So what had happened was, is during that first year or so the server kept getting hammered and I couldn't figure out why. It turns out that there were still quite a few people running a version of Sensible Facial and whomever updated it for Endowment didn't bother removing the code that looked for update instructions in Rojo's profile... every time it ran. So whenever these people running the script would visit a page they were making two server calls for every one page they were viewing. Needless to say, quite a lot of traffic, the server was not having a good time. So rather than do the simple thing and add a single if-then into profile.php, I did what I thought was the smart thing. I dissected the facial script, found the code that would turn update checks off, and created a fake profile with Rojo's old id in the database with the instruction to turn all the facial update checks off.... And I forgot about the auto-increment value which automatically jumped to +1 of Rojo's old id number that I plugged in there and gave us a gap in the user numbers. I'll get around to fixing it one of these days, but doing so requires not just renumbering all the user profiles, I also have to rewrite everybody's login cookies. And that's a bit trickier. So ends my tale of woe. |

Where could one find the new sensiblefacial?
|
steele said[1] @ 1:42am GMT on 4th Dec
There isn't one as far as I know. Last I heard some updates I made broke it to pieces over a year ago. There was another bug in the moderation code of Facial that was causing errors galore for the site. What features are you looking for that you're not seeing in your sub features or on the beta site?
|
eggboy said @ 1:58am GMT on 4th Dec
I'd like to be able to mouseover mods to see who gave them. I also liked the look of facial as it could be made not so bright and I found it easier to see who was reponding to whom with the commentbox borders.
