North Carolina man arrested for not returning VHS tape rented in 2002

quote [ “The guy brings me to the back of the car and he goes: ‘Sir, I don’t know how to tell you this, but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented a movie, Freddy Got Fingered, and you never returned it,’” Meyers said in the video, appearing dumbfounded.

The Concord police department confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, saying the warrant was issued 28 February 2002 by the now closed video store and signed by a magistrate. ]

"Hey - don't Bundy that book!"

In extended N.C. has just passed a law blocking local governments from passing anti-discrimination rules to grant protections to gay and transgender people, and the Republican establishment candidate is chosen.

Sticking with the 'let's point out embarrassing North Carolina shit' North Carolina just passed a law blocking measures to protect LGBT people.

Ted Cruz has now been picked as is the Republican establishment candidate. Ted Cruz. These folks could fuck up the recipe for boiled water.

I am for the 'yes - fuck it - that's your answer to EVERYTHING isn't it?' candidate

That must be some fertile soil.

Where do you think soccer balls come from if not soccer trees?

I'm still surprised Kasich wasn't chosen as the establishment candidate. He did the best job of pretending he could appeal to moderate voters, and could have been a swing-state threat, but he turned out to be the Invisible Man. Almost as surprising as Jeb!'s complete failure to launch. It's like the GOP would rather choose someone they despise rather than someone they can't remember.

In any other election Cruz would be the Tea Party outsider candidate, not the establishment pick.

I think this more cements that it's the Donors largely via their astroturfed Tea Party who have become the de facto establishment. They're not scared of Trump because of his rhetoric, they're scared of him because they don't own him. He would fuck over every other bully in the playground if it meant getting what he wanted and nobody is entirely sure what that is. But the one thing he is proving is that the fear and hate they've been sowing is useful and I'm sure, in their eyes, they'd be foolish to try distance themselves from that.

I think this is what happens when you court the likes of the Tea Party.

They're the motivated extremists (though not necessarily extreme about the same thing, but still far to the right of the majority) that reliably turn out for the primaries. They want a strong man candidate who will punish whoever they think has been causing them and/or the country harm. For years, they've supported more and more bomb-throwing vitriolic candidates who have rolled back taxes for the rich and promised to end gay marriage, stop whatever "liberal" policy they fixate on, keep the government from taking their guns, etc.

Unless a state/district is very red, these candidates aren't electable. Out of the town halls full of supporters, they can't come off as rational or sane. If they try to moderate, their previous statements haunt them and/or their supporters cry foul. On a national level, you still have the extremists running the table at the primaries, so you end up with candidates who repulse the majority of voters.

I don't know how the GOP can extricate itself from the mess it's in, and if it does cause the party to change, it won't be done quietly.

Really the new anti-LGBT law should be the main story here. Was gonna post it but distractions.

Sexy, sexy distractions.
