It's really bizarre that we can't accept a synthetic replacement for yak hair so we just need to go on shaving yaks, even as the yaks are dying.

It's for the same reason diamond companies keep insisting on "mined-diamonds are better" when they are virtually indistinguishable from lab-grown counterparts, which have fewer flaws and inclusions.
People care more about the story even if they can't tell the difference. |
