Risks to Australia of a 3°C warmer world: Scientists release landmark climate change report

quote [ It highlights that even if the world’s governments meet their current Paris pledges on time, Earth is likely to reach average global surface temperatures of 3oC above the pre-industrial period during this century, with catastrophic consequences. ]

The sixth assessment report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is due out sometime next year but we're seeing a sign of things to come as many of the scientists involved are releasing their Country's individual reports.

We've known for years that the Paris Agreement was a paper tiger, and even the 2 degree line in the sand is genocide for a significant chunk of coastal societies.

Turns out this little panel has an interesting history. Check out the (more-or-less) author's blog.

Lol, I knew my thumb wasn't the original, but the original author does seem to like their wave metaphors.

Humans not becoming an extinct species might be beneficial in the long term, but in the short term it just doesn't make economic sense. Unfortunately, not wiping out civilisation is just too expensive.

Can't wait until the billionaires get to their bunkers stocked with years' worth of food, clinging to life, only to realize that that they hadn't been joking years before, when they berated their personal chef that they'd "rather die" than eat from a can.
