when you realize you're on the wrong side

quote [ For a white Evangelical, the idea of Black Lives Matter might make sense. But the need for collective shifts of power structures doesn’t make sense — at least in their world. Of course they would jump at something like QAnon, which, instead of suggesting that the “bad guy” is actually the system, suggests that the bad guy is an actual set of bad guys, individual and malevolent bad guys, doing specific actions that you can then oppose.

In this way, #SavetheChildren and QAnon becomes a very satisfying collective action project. ]

Too me, that was an enlightening read.

The right has been making up pedo conspiracies for a while. Remember pizzagate? And now they claim there's this huge pedo ring run by the Democrats, especially the Clinton's.

I don't get why people can't see the manufactured scandals are on loop.

Without reading the article, I hazard the guess that it's the same reason why prison inmates are obsessed with pedophiles. They're tickled pink and to find somebody genuinely worse than themselves.

My guess would be it's considered among our most heinous crimes, they never have to produce victims who come forward or any substantive evidence, and once that accusation is made, it becomes a top search result for the name of the accused.

It's the worst version of, "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" To defend against the accusation validates it, but not to allows it to run rampant.

Ah, that will be it. You have made me feel very naive for saying that Republicans are not worse than pedophiles.

It works just like any other conspiracy theory, like flat earth or chemtrails.

I mean, there's a reason that child sex ring conspiracies are so prevalent and easy to spread.

Conspiracy of Silence (1993) - IMDb

"Conspiracy of Silence" is a powerful, disturbing documentary revealing a nationwide child abuse and pedophilia ring that leads to the highest levels of government. Featuring intrepid investigator John DeCamp, a highly decorated Vietnam war veteran and 16-year Nebraska state senator, "Conspiracy of Silence" reveals how rogue elements at all levels of government have been involved in systematic child abuse and pedophilia to feed the base desires of key politicians.

And then of course there's the Epstein thing, Catholic priests, Hollywood, etc.

We saw this during the 1980s in the McMartin Preschool satanic abuse case. Which, in turn, was built on a huge stew of satanic rumors, including the evil effects of video games, Dungeons and Dragons, and basically whatever scared the evangelical Right. The times change, the names change, but the targets remain the same: the comfortingly 'evil' pedophiles, who are so easily turned into 'Them' and convicted with no facts produced. "Twas ever thus, says Mr. Natural."
