I live in NYC. It's super quiet, and I live on a noisy block. I heard sirens in the first weeks. Every day, and since there is little traffic, they would linger. I'd hear them for minutes.
It's not like 9/11, where sirens were everywhere in the first hours. This was every fucking day, mostly in the mornings. |

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence |

It's 7.20am on Saturday, I'm sitting in my tiny garden in East London (something for which I am more grateful than ever in my 16 or so years living in this house). It is so quiet.
So quiet. The last couple of days have felt a little like the city is waking up, with at least 3 more weeks of lock-down announced people certainly aren't thronging in the streets but I see more people now if i go out for a run or to buy essential supplies. I definitely think there are more cars this week, but it's still so quiet. So quiet. I will miss the quiet the it's gone but I will welcome the City back. |
