MAD Magazine to Effectively Shutter After 67 Years

quote [ The beloved satire publication will no longer be sold on newsstands after the August issue, and future editions will no longer feature new content and instead shift to previously published material — with new covers. ]

To light the spliff, and read Mad magazine

When i bought my first scanner, the first thing i did was run my driver's licence through for the picture. I mirrored half of the image and it ended up looking like Alfred E Newman.

I printed it out and sent it to MAD. They didn't use it, but they did send me a nice rejection with a hand written note. I saved that for years; better to be rejected by MAD magazine than accepted by just about anyone.

I get it though, how can you satirize the world currently?

:(

Although I haven't checked the magazine out in a while I really did enjoy it as a kid, especially the folding pages on the backside of the cover.

Bummer.

Same. I had the Star Wars collectible edition as a kid and loved every page of it.

As a children, we found our Mum's old editions of Mad, which based on the film satires must have been from mid-1960s. We treated them very badly, and pretty much ripped them up while looking or Spy vs Spy pages.

At the time, satires of films like The Sounds of Music seemed like an memories of an ancient world and culture. I find it odd now that our Mad Vandalism procedure happened closer to the time of those ancient times than it was to this day.

They should support themselves by selling fake Nintendo, like Cracked.

Say what you like about cracked.com, but show me another retailer that lets the public write comments at the bottom of its product pages, lamenting the poor quality of their stuff.

Shit has gotten too real for that mag to be actually funny. The Onion is having a hard time as well.
