Move over meteorology, 5G is the hot new use for microwaves

quote [ NOAA told Congress that 5G interference could set the accuracy of weather forecasts back 40 years.

Important water vapor data is transmitted at 23.8 GHz, where they're potentially vulnerable to interference from 5G transmissions in the adjacent 24 GHz band.

With this, the European model wouldn't have predicted 2012's Superstorm Sandy hitting the NE coast several days in advance. Instead, the model would've steered the storm out to sea. Lead time to prepare for the storm would've been cut short.

A Navy memo stated the data interference would lead to "a probable degradation of weather and ocean models" resulting in "increased risk of ... degraded battlespace awareness for tactical/operational advantage." ]

Who needs to see the big picture when you can stare at a phone?

I previously linked in a comment to this Hackaday article on some of the technical details.

It's cool, we don't need meteorology - I can just look up the weather on my phone!

It's not like the weather forecast is ever right, so what's the big deal?

It's not like weather is going to continue to get more extreme and unpredictable either. It's fine.
