I wrote the book on user-friendly design. What I see today horrifies me

quote [ Some of us have permanent disabilities, but all of us have suffered from situational and temporary problems. When outside in the sun, the text message that just arrived is unreadable: wouldn’t it be nice if the display, whether cellphone, watch, or tablet, could switch to large, higher contrast lettering? Are elderly people handicapped? Maybe, but so is a young, athletic parent while carrying a baby on one arm and a bag of groceries in the other ]

Through the eyes of the elderly.

I find it interesting to read Norman in order. His problems goes from doors and wierd dorm fridges, to carseats and luxury juice presses, and now to this.
He has a point though. Design for the stress group, and you design for everyone.

Strap the baby to your chest and use a grocery bag with handles.

I see bad UIs all the time. As far as I'm concerned, everyone who currently designs UIs for a living is in the wrong job. They have no idea what they're doing.

In my experience it's mostly customers who designs. "We need a button to refresh the dropdown that selects what the frame displays in the banner". And since those who make the products likes money they just nod, add and agree. While those who have knowledge just grits their teeth and adds a proper user centered fix to the backlogg.

Fuck, I hate my job.
