WOKE BRANDS

quote [ Can a product be truly progressive? How can I free my skin? Let's discuss! ]

Thanks to ublock origin, streaming all my shows, and rarely leaving the house... I get to avoid most advertisements. Sadly, it's the "uplifting" or "wholesome" type of shit on social media that I'm most often exposed to nowadays. Like "80 year old man is given new POPULAR BRAND vehicle so he can keep working" or "yogurt company pays off overdue meal debts for an entire school!" Bleagh.

Smooplebook is doing a great job of this by outsourcing most of their work to other companies that are set to hit certain benchmarks but are responsible for any illegal activity. So they actually, technically, aren’t doing bad things even though their business model entirely depends on other companies going evil for them. Point and case, one of their project managers set two techs work schedules for eight hours a day, 7 days a week, for two months straight until someone who isn’t me totally mentioned that the people involved might need time off from work factored in. And the project manager seemed shocked/surprised.

Wait.

Am I doing this wrong?

Never mind.

Please unread this.

I do worry about your immortal digital soul, mookie. When they upload you, it's just gonna be that for eternity.

I just regret I'm going to miss the whole genetics deepfake thing where you can just see anyone you want naked.

The Chobani one's actually legit. The owner's a philanthropist, gives most of his attention to refugee issues but this is on-brand. Worth noting that he wasn't the only one to step up; local businesses tried to donate money but due to some rules about equality in schools they couldn't pay off some of the students' debt unless they paid all of it. That's being looked at now along with other issues.

Main thing is that it's a short-term fix, paying off their current debt. A long-term budget solution is still being investigated.

Yeah, I'm aware it's legit. My issue (as with most of this "uplifting" crap) is that it's happening.

But think of all the good GoFundMe is doing by enabling people to beg for their lives.

tut tut. we like to think of it as "existing off of the kindness of others"
