He lived in Fort Worth, did all the local shows. My impression is that he was genuinely a nice person who humbly enjoyed being appreciated by a fandom who never saw his face in those films. Poor man had terrible arthritis and I do suspect that, like so many others, he did those conventions because he needed that source of income. There is no retirement plan for creatives. At least it always appeared to be his choice, there are others who are being schlepped around by family or assistants who take advantage of them.
I expect that in the next several years waves of those stories will come out. I don't think Mayhew will be one of them though. |
