Citations Needed Episode 72 - John Stossel: Libertarian Billionaires' Inside Man

quote [ And to be clear, even after he left ABC in 2009, they still continued to make these videos. There’s an organization which we’ll get into later called the Center for Independent Thought, ironically enough independent thought that is funded entirely by Howard Rich, who’s kind of a Koch disciple, fellow billionaire, helped Koch run for president in the ‘80s, they distribute these videos to children. So we’re going to play these clips from these ABC Stossel segments from the ’90s and 2000s and the one thing we want you to keep in mind is that these are repackaged and played in schools. ]

Transcript of the episode if you'd rather read.

So, in reading Dark Money, one of the things I found so villainous of the methodologies utilized by the Koch Brothers and their cohorts was that in addition to attacking public schools from multiple angles, whether it was via funding or teachers' unions, they also play the other side by often funding non-profits which would make libertarian propaganda available to schools under the guise of a neutral facade. Stossel, as it turns out, was/is the face of one of those projects.

Welcome. If you like this, be sure to check out their other episodes. Citations Needed is amazing and is becoming the new favorite for all my friends who are becoming sick of NPR's shitward shift.

In this same vein is the Mike Rowe episode, who is running a similar grift as Stossel. And then a first & second episode on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which gets into a lot of the similar underhanded stuff that Koch and Co are doing.

One of my personal favorites though, is probably The Neoliberal Optimism Industry which tears apart the whole manipulation of data the Pinker/End of History folks love to spread like manure. Also, it's a good accompaniment to the Bill Gates episodes, as that's one of the narratives Gates likes to help propagate.

This is the kind of shit that needs much more exposure. Meanwhile, people argue over legal spying of a candidate as opposed to an illegal one?

FFS.
