ZACH-LIKE

quote [ We have also shipped various physical items before (binders for SHENZHEN I/O, zines for EXAPUNKS) and have a rich, if somewhat complex, relationship with our local post office. ]

Lovingly assembled 400 pages of Zachtronics design documents. Sadly a horrific shipping cost for us continental people.

They're certainly a very niche taste, but I love Zachtronics' games. It's funny that he's best known for making the precursor to Minecraft than for his puzzle games, which I think are the apex of the genre. I have tremendous admiration for someone who can conceive of puzzle designs so elegant they generate continuous flashes of insight, and that train your brain to evolve new paradigms.

I feel your pain - I'm too far away too. Seems like everyone that wants this is somewhere they can't get it... and it's telling that even an engineering genius can't solve the US Postal Service.

Luckily, I'm neither the import hoarder nor the Kickstarter-triggered person. One exception was ordering a book about ZZT which, while totally worth it, also had the most absurd shipping costs for a meager 200g print-on-demand paperback.

Shit, can't seem to mod your comment after replying.

Heh, "Mod first, then reply" used to be the mantra of the classic SE. I'd like to think Steele's kept it that way for reasons of tradition.

It's awesome that there'll be a free pdf after the Kickstarter ends. I love the aesthetics of design documents, and these all look hand-drawn while also seeming to reflect an exceptionally organised mind.

I'd get double the pleasure from reading this in print, but the postage makes it triple the price. A Zachtronics player would not accept such an irrational bargain! But if modern economics have taught us anything it is that there ain't no such thing as a rational actor.
