What it’s like to pursue a dream for 30 years — and fail

quote [ For every successful, hot-selling invention, there are a million others that don’t make it. But what does ‘failure’ really mean? ]

Shut up and take my money!

Oh, from the headline I thought this was going to be about Face's perpetual motion idea.

Me too, but then the article would have to be more about delusions of grandeur than a guy with fully working products that just can't land a manufacturing deal.

For context:

The Bionic Boots can get this guy to 25mph.

The average human running speed is 10-15mph.

The fastest human running speed is 27mph, but sprinting.

Last night I dreamed that I discovered the Weak Electromagnetic Force. I don't even know anything about Weak Electromagnetic Force, except that (obviously) somebody already discovered it. A fact I found depressing in my dream, because this random chance meant that I wouldn't get any recognition for my discovery.

My dad was a physicist. Apparently he had a few interesting ideas, went to research them, and kept finding that the same people had already gotten there. I am named after those people.

I feel like this guy should be addressing this as prosthetics or some kind of military application if he is into making money. Idk if it’s worth mimicking the fastest bipedal if the blade style stuff is faster/cheaper? But I like that this guy is into it.

You think oscar pistorius stole one of his early prototypes?

I know this is missing the point of the article, but, spring stilts / jumping stilts are actually a decently established thing. It's not the idea that failed, it's just his implementation of it.
spaceloaf said @ 9:49am GMT on 28th Jan
I mean, I don't think his implementation even failed. At from the article, it seems that his designs work. He just couldn't find a company willing to productize it. His design only "failed" in the sense that he couldn't market it successfully.
