Strongest opponents of GM foods know the least but think they know the most

quote [ Analysis of surveys from US, France and Germany could also have implications for science communication in other fields ]

Even Wikipedia links to about a dozen metadata studies on the topic published in major journals or by governments. The science is clear. Like with climate change and evolution, the only real “debate” that exists in this field comes from those who refuse to accept the science for whatever reason.

Also - good science is not swayed by funding, which is a very common strawman that denialists love to throw out. I have a coworker that was part of MIT’s climate change department and they had funding from Exxon, Shell, and a number of other fossil energy companies. The director emeritus wrote one of the most damning chapters of the 2013 IPCC report.

I'm not concerned about the science. I'm concerned about the secondary effects like reduction of crop diversity, order 81, and the fact that the US will commit war crimes like that order to advance the interests us companies.

To be fair, crop diversity is shit at a large scale whether its GMO, traditional, or organic. All that varies is the type of thing you only grow one variety of.

Best way to stop a bad guy being self sustaining on agriculture is a good guy with warcrimes.

What a surprise, Russia is behind a lot of this as well.

What a surprise, the "genetic literacy project" could just be a front for pro GMO agenda.

Interesting. Though both sides can be true, sadly.

Strawman denialist. How dare you challenge the hearsay account of some guy the poster works with ?

This is a typical case of the Mannerheim–Polyperchon-effect. That people that are completely sure of themselves most often turn out to hold firm beliefs.

Um, I think you mean the Dumbledore-Crouton effect?
Ankylosaur said @ 7:44pm GMT on 16th Jan
Surely you mean the Benedict-Cumberbatch effect.

No, that's the Hammacher-Schlemmer effect.

No, you're thinking of the Badder-Hasselhoff effect.

If years in the journalism field have taught me anything, it is that facts matter less than the emotions those facts elicit. If a true thing makes you feel bad then it is a bad thing to be avoided, no matter how true.

So you must enjoy believing that?

Frankly, no, I don't, not one goddamned bit. This is supposed to be a world where facts are considered rationally. But time and again I have been proven wrong.

There's also pleasure in cynicism and superiority
