George HW Bush, former US president, dies aged 94

quote [ America’s 41st president and patriarch of Bush dynasty will be remembered for steady hand during collapse of Soviet Union ]

And, guess what kind of a parachute Mr. Drug War Junta-Man himself George Bush used when he bailed out of that bomber in World War II?

You mean, a Freedom Parachute?

I've read that the 'chute itself was silk, but the shroud lines were made from hemp. Cannabis. Wacky terbacky. Pot. Grass. Oh, the irony.

Why does everyone state these facts as if hemp will get you stoned?

Wishful thinking?

Same reason “healthy food” industry says kale and supergreens keeps the fat away instead of, I don’t know... taking responsibility for what you stuff in your mouth.

Actually, those foods do promote weight loss. Turns out exercise is not great for losing g weight.

Onions
Mushrooms
Berries

These things are the best to put into your body as often as possible.

It's not stated for the reason of getting stoned.. it's pointing out the fact that hemp fibers are useful in many ways but it's ignored because you have to grow male cannabis plants to produce the fibers and that's a no no with the nay sayers.
rylex said @ 1:27am GMT on 2nd Dec
See, this is more ignorance being spread.

Hemp is not male cannabis plants...

Arguing the finer points is nice, but gets us nowhere. It takes away from the bigger reasons why we don't grow it (*cough*lumber, cotton, corn industries...*cough*).

We have had a perfectly fine and perfectly legal alternative we could have been growing this whole time that, besides having multiple uses as a fiber, is also beneficial to the environment:

Each crop yields about 8 to 10 tonnes of dry weight per acre, this is generally about 3-5 times greater than the yield for southern pine trees, which can take up to 7 years to reach optimal harvest size. Kenaf is certainly a “super” plant. It is able to sequester 8 times as much carbon as an acre of evergreen trees. One acre of Kenaf can absorb 10 to 20 tons of carbon during photosynthesis.

Kenaf’s short growing season and minimal water and fertilizer requirements make it among the most environmentally friendly and sustainable fibre crops on earth.
