My first paying computer graphics gig was building custom 32x32 pixel icons, one pixel at a time in ResEdit, for certain specialized industrial applications and their documents. I was restricted to the subset of the few dozen colors common to, I think, Mac OS 7 and Windows 2.1.

I have a 400k floppy drive containing those icons on the shelf right behind me, but I haven't had access to a machine that can read it for at least a decade.
