Horrific? Unfortunately not. The first half dozen were horrific. The next were nightmarish. The next were were terrible. The next were disturbing. The next were upsetting. The next were depressing. The next were troubling. The next were sad. The next were unfortunate... and so on. Now, it's just another Thursday morning.

This came on the radio as I was driving my kids to school. Without looking up from her iPad my daughter said "what do you bet the shooter used an AR-15?"

She's 14 years old, people.

Yes, there's something for everyone at Cannon-Bell, whether they're expecting it or not! And all at such LOW LOW LOW prices that you'd have to be insane NOT to go on a shooting spree! Yes, visit Cannon-Bell and your only question will be "Is shooting up just one bar enough?"

Looks like he had normal capacity magazines that you can't buy in california (they limit to 10rd) but other wise was all legal. In spite of the many gun laws in california. News is reporting that he had contact with cops but nothing that would have gotten his guns taken away. I live in the area and have friends who go to that bar.

I'm sure the victims' families will take great comfort in learning that the weapon used to murder their loved ones wasn't the assault kind.

He used a handgun.

It wasn't terrorism, so that's a silver lining.

Isn't radical incel terrorism a thing yet?
mechanical contrivance said @ 5:31pm GMT on 8th Nov
It is, but we don't call it that.

Not until brown people start doing it.

At some point, these are going to have happened often enough that everyone will be effected at least second hand. And I can only hope that change happens before that, but I seriously doubt it.

And then ... ?

We'll need to start encouraging immigration to offset the population losses. Maybe start granting amnesty, encouraging the caravans.
cb361 said @ 9:56pm GMT on 8th Nov
Clearly this is why Conservatives are against birth control - they need to offset the population loss from liberal gun laws.
milkman666 said[1] @ 10:28pm GMT on 8th Nov
Well its not working. We need hardier Americans, and i can't think of better candidates that south Americans. If you can survive Guatemalan death squads and a march through Chiapas to Chihuahua then you have the right stuff to endure our stand your ground laws and xenophobic snowflakes.

You might start to see the alt right, and other white supremacists start pushing for stricter gun control laws as a consequence. Eco-Fascists are a thing, and i almost always hear someone make the argument that the nazis supported gun control which is why AR-15s should be standard issue for everyone. To fight fascism.

[Edit] Thats fucking weird, i thought i had this as a reply to cb361.

According to conspiracy theorists, Hitler took up vegetarianism while studying under the Ancient Masters of the world in their underground city in Tibet.
cb361 said @ 11:01pm GMT on 8th Nov
I think it's just that everybody in Europe supports gun control anyway.

12 people had their right to own guns permanently taken away.

"Eleven people were killed, in addition to a sheriff’s sergeant responding to the scene who was gunned down by the assailant minutes later."

So much for "all it takes is one good guy with a gun"...
Anonynonymous said @ 2:39pm GMT on 9th Nov
People just always forgetting to mention the asterisk.

*Provided if the good guy with a gun is already on the scene when the shooting starts, not the first guy to get shot, and hopefully is a better marksman than the shooter*

And even in the best case scenario the most a good guy with a gun can do in most cases is limit the scope of the mass shooting to just regular shooting. The first couple victims are shit out of luck either way.

But to be fair, good-guy-with-a-gun scenarios has had happened. But since technically it didn't get to play out into a mass shooting, they rarely make the news.

Either way, I actually do believe good-guy-with-a-gun is part of the solution, but there's fuck tons more to the solution than just that.
