Kepler telescope dead after finding thousands of worlds

quote [ CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — NASA's elite planet-hunting spacecraft has been declared dead, just a few months shy of its 10th anniversary. Officials announced the Kepler Space Telescope's demise Tuesday. Already well past its expected lifetime, the 9 1/2-year-old Kepler had been running low on fuel for months. Its ability to point at distant stars and identify possible alien worlds worsened dramatically at the beginning of October, but flight controllers still managed to retrieve its latest observations. The telescope has now gone silent, its fuel tank empty. ]

We all knew this day his was coming, but it still makes me sad...

If Kerbal Space Program has taught me anything, it's that the proper response to a situation like this is a hastily planned refueling mission, followed by a hastily planned rescue mission because you forgot to put parachutes on the refueling crew's reentry capsule.

Then you discover your overestimated your fuel requirements for the rescue mission and decide to take the whole conglomeration to the Mun instead, which then results in a hasty rescue mission because you forgot satellites don't have landing gear...

Now we just need to train a team of oil drillers to save the telescope.
