Never mind the robots, Hawking's final warning was of "superhumans"

quote [ The late Prof Stephen Hawking has caused controversy by suggesting a new race of superhumans could develop from wealthy people choosing to edit their and their children's DNA. "Once such superhumans appear, there will be significant political problems with unimproved humans, who won't be able to compete. Presumably, they will die out, or become unimportant. Instead, there will be a race of self-designing beings who are improving at an ever-increasing rate." ]

Is it too soon to demand Universal Basic Genome Editing?

They'll just going to get wiped out by the upcoming wave of disease caused by people that refuse to vaccinate their kids.

This seems dystopian, but gene editing is probably the only way we'll get rid of and get past all our stupid ape shit in our DNA that causes most of our problems.

This is also where I'll toss in my thesis on how Gattaca actually shows us the opposite of what the story is attempting to say. Vincent is arrogant, unfit, selfish and a dangerous member of society - perhaps the most dangerous we know about with the stakes at play. Fun film to analyze.

Vincent admits as much. Flat out calls himself a "de-gene-arate" and a proud member of a newly detested class of society. That's why Jerome incinerates himself at the end. He needed a lowly sort as such as Vincent to fulfill his own dream, and in the end just could not reconcile how he may have just destroyed and polluted the whole of his pure society for his own selfish reasons.

I recommend reading Beyond This Horizon by Robert Heinlein.

I recommend focusing on the bug menace and the 300,000 mobile infantry troopers that we lost on Klendathu.

Why would anyone go to Klendathu? It's an ugly planet. A bug planet.
