Move over strawberries, genetically engineered groundcherries are the future

quote [ To prepare the groundcherry (Physalis pruinosa) for mainstream farming, researchers combined genomics and gene editing to rapidly improve traits such as fruit size, plant shape, and flower production. "I firmly believe that with the right approach, the groundcherry could become a major berry crop." ]

Store them in your refrigerator's CRISPR drawer.

My mother grows them south of her greenhouse. She is really proud of them. I prefer strawberries newly picked, but these last better in the fridge/store.

Yep.

When we were in China, the grocery stores were overflowing with lychees as big as plums, with tiny stones. I nearly lived on them for a week. And they want to give us domestic Physalis fruit, which didn't really taste of much when they were wild?

Hmm - looks like they crossed a cherry with a tomatillo. Cherrytillo?
