Ellison was a brilliant and wonderfully crusty bastard. I think I first encountered him when I checked out one of his collections from the library, Death Bird Stories, when I as nine or ten.
Blew My Fucking Mind. I think at that point I was reading Xanth stories. I didn't know people wrote like that, that writing like that existed; facing humanities' fears and doubts and horrors and dreams with brutally honest, direct, and unflinching stories, skillfully and beautifully told. Nikan, this Watching series is a fantastic find! I'm loving it. "She had a voice like a seagull getting an enema, she really couldn't sing, but people loved to come to her concerts..." |
