And he's rather blasé about his legacy--I asked him about EGS going on after he passes, and he would sell the site, if pressed.

Curating the site is what makes good shit possible. When he dies, the site will no longer be what it is. Like the corner bookstore with the eccentric owner who's book recommendations can be eclectic and off the wall. . . In a good way.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've helped Fred manage the site in the past, and tried once or twice to pick up the slack while he was on vacation or similar. The effort and time he puts into sourcing quality content is truly impressive, and I was not up to the task.

I do think it EGS is nicely curated, but he often does a really shitty job of giving the writers/reporters the credit they are due. He'll just bulk copy/paste instead of linking to reasonably accessible sites, and not even bother to include source info. That bothers me. That's one of the reasons why I so carefully link and credit any, "full text in extended" SE posts from paywall/addwall sites I do.

He would need a staff of interns to provide that kind of detail. Scantily clad interns.
