SE Digest: Volume 36

quote [ You can at least concede that having North Korea calm down and start talking to South Korea, and freeing wrongly jailed men, those are all good things regardless of who the fuck's in the White House, yeah? ...No? Okay. ]

A line of stuck/dead pixels appeared near the top of my laptop screen just before I started recording this episode and has grown longer and thicker, nearly to the bottom now. Tried a couple quick fix ideas I found online but nothing is working. Less than a year old so still under warranty, but shipping this thing to the mainland would be expensive. Fuck! Any suggestions?

If your pixels are stuck rather than dead. There is software that can possibly help ( basically by cycling the colors rapidly in an attempt to unstick it. I doubt it would work with as many as you describe, but worth a try.)

Given the large number and fast accumulation, you might want to test some other things. It could be artifacts from your gpu. Plug in an external monitor and see if the problem is duplicated. If that is the problem you could try updating your drivers if they need it. Also check the temperature when it happens. Your fan or vents might be clogged with volcanic ash.

Stay safe.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the stuck pixel software method and it didn't work. The cost to ship it for repairs wasn't as bad as I imagined so it's off to Texas for a replacement screen.
