Well, I intended this in a good way. Judge your friends by their enemies, that sort of thing.

I get it, but if we gotta plan our posts around what's going to trigger them I'm not going to be able to post anymore.

In case you hadn't noticed, I'm generally in favor of triggering them. Especially with this sort of thing.

I wouldn't mind them being triggered if they could do it quietly in their own bathroom like the good lord intended.

You're the law around these parts. You have the power to strike back instead of dictating that 5 reasonable people go through the trouble of down-modding a post with which the offender can copy and paste the exact same post, clearing the 'effort' of the down-modders.

You're telling people to fill holes with fantasy dirt and non-existent shovels and then complaining that it's the community's fault the potholes are still here.

I've been trying to cultivate some of our counsel to join the community (if you think my rants are long...) and they've been watching. But this post was discussed at length about not having a single comment on the article in question.

From one of them (paraphrasing): "Moderation works when you have a thriving community that needs to only exert minimal effort to quiet bad eggs. However, you cannot accomplish that when a small number can simply ignore what little ramifications exist. They (the trolls) are literally discussing within the article how the lack of any punitive measures are a farce. This would be similar to us going into a courtroom when there is no bailiff, and the judge has neither the will nor patience to ensure order in the court. What hope has anyone to have a reasonable dialogue in such an emotional environment? Why would one expect the audience to self-regulate?"

I know I'm a broken record. Yes it would make you the babysitter and the person that has to code more permanent punishments for low karma but you implied to me that the idea was to get more readership, commentators, and community. Not that these are the lurkers you may have been looking for, but they have expressed concerns about joining a primarily 'filtered comment under your threshold' discussion.

But isn’t that the argument? Maryyugo offered something, ANYTHING, other than solely shitposting. I can understand your argument with norok as I’ve spoken to him myself. He’s... trying. However, some of the others are solely here to disrupt the dialogue, are insane, or both.

The point is (I feel) there needs to be a minimum level of decency enforced OR a tit-for-tat trade off of racism traded for puns, reasonable dialogue after the racism, or something. As it stands there’s nothing, and this cycle repeats every week or so. It’s especially disheartening on articles that could have had a robust discussion both ways. Some lurkers were very interested in everyone’s opinion on this topic for example.
