Secret Life of a Search and Rescue Volunteer

I looked into doing search and rescue diving. Went and spoke with a couple of divers and decided i couldn't hack it after one said "remember, we dive with a few inches of visibility if we're lucky-usually its close to 0, trying to find a body by feel most of the time while trying not to impale ourselves on debris on the bottom of the river"... nope, nope, nope. Mad respect for them, but no way i could do it.

After reading this, I realized there is a reason I don't go out and risk my life in extreme conditions. I think too much about my family and my friends, and I don't want them to be sad I'm dead too soon.

I'd rather they be glad I lived long enough to do all the things together we dreamed of...

According to eggboy, it's okay if your loved ones are "clingy girlfriends or helicopter parents"

I back county ski all the time and see SAR helis flying around often. We always hope it's a drill or a rescue cache resupply, but it isn't always
