Accusing Facebook of 'Effectively Banning Professional Journalism,' Brazil's Largest Paper Ditches Platform

quote [ Accusing Facebook of discriminating against "quality" content and accelerating the spread of "fake news" with its newly-unveiled algorithm, Brazil's largest newspaper Folha de S. Paulo—which boasts a print and online subscriber base of 285,000 people—has announced that it will no longer publish its articles on the social media platform. ]

Let's hope this is part of a trend of decentralizing from the gatekeepers. I'm not as optimistic about the outcome as Benício. The fake news cat is out of the bag.

Facebook has made it pretty hard for any news outlets to be featured or boosted on people's walls ever since they started "cracking down" fake news.

They reset everything. Any news pages you follow will only appear a handful of times on your timeline every day unless you manually tick the setting to "See First."

I don't know if it's the same as on the desktop and the app, but you can no longer report stuff for being Fake News either on the mobile site. I'll typically report the bullshit memes I see spreading straight up lies and the option for something being Fake News is no longer there. They've since rejected a couple of my reports for things that were total bullshit.

I imagine it was horrifically a used to the point of being useless beyond being the equivalent of being the close button on the elevator not actually wired to anything.

Totally possible. For a while I was getting good results, but like when we saw the Bernie groups being shutdown, it's really easy to manipulate these systems.
