This was their shot. This was Trump sycophants’ opportunity to make their case – in writing, with classified information – with the media spotlight and the public’s attention. This was their chance to show that there were actual abuses and that the investigation into the president and his political operation lack justification. Instead, they fired blanks.

Republican memo proves to be worse than meaningless

Unfortunately, you are focused on the wrong thing. Most everyone is.

Regardless how well or not well this went off, we are now in danger of losing the republic.

Schiff has accused Nunes of editing the memo before giving it to Trump. This means this has become a Separation of Powers issues. The memo includes information on an investigation, that investigation's subject is the person getting the memo.

If Nunes added details, he could have potentially spoiled the investigation or tipped of Trump, though just what was released could have done that too, we don't know, we haven't seen it.

But the problem becomes if that is pressed. This goes to a Supreme Court that is experiencing it's own Constitutional Crisis in Gorsuch. That will be all three branches fundamentally compromised, I doubt either side will trust a ruling that doesn't suit them, and even if Gorsuch recuses, the fundamental problem is the same.

So, enjoy whatever hollow victory you feel like getting from this. Because this is a gamble and the bet is the Republic and I don't think it will survive.

Actually this release makes me feel a little better I feared it may show wrong doing by Rosenstien it didn't, because that when this blows the hell up with his or Mueller firing. Now he has less leverage and the odds of that have gotten better.

It's also possible that, rather than firing Mueller, Trump will obstruct Mueller's investigation by issuing blanket pardons of key figures being investigated, firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the person overseeing Mueller, or taking other actions to prevent the investigation from being conducted freely.
