The article paints a cutesy picture, but realistically - the roads are full of potholes that can swallow an SUV, the houses in the San Jose neighborhoods are literally fenced in fortresses because of the high crime rate, and they are constantly flooded with Nicaraguan and Honduran cartel and gang members. There is also a clear social stratification there as well as all of the real wealth in the country spread amongst a very small number of folks.

Don't get me wrong - I would still park my boat down there and live on it for a few months a year after I retire, but, you definitely need to know what is over there first.

One thing I thought was awfully cool though - they don't have a military.

The beaches are fabulous too - just watch out for the salt water crocodiles.

I don't imagine it's perfect, but I've also been to Detroit. So I've got a wide scale to work with. And it's clear that our way of doing things here in the States aren't working out too well for many of us.
