People in two U.S. states will get $1,000 a month in a new basic income trial

quote [ The experiment is expected to last up to five years. ]

YCombinator is expanding their UBI studies to the US. It would sure be nice to see some US Federal Government programs checking this out rather than finding ourselves chained to a private group, but we've got some time before that's possible.

Recently was discussing this with some of the other parents on a cub scout camp out. I live in a fairly heavily red leaning area of a blue state, and there was quite a bit of the 'just fucking work for your money' sentiment. Me, being 'that damn hippy fuck from san fran-gay-o' (this, oddly, was said quite affectionately, i'm still a little torn)., noted there was a derth of actual study on this, just theory. I mentioned a few basic test, like the one in Oakland, pointed out the very limited data sets, and people actually listened.

It's the automation argument that got them. People are afraid of machines taking their livelyhoods, just ask the Luddites.

This is one of the videos I like to share when speaking one to one and it doesn't matter if it's a Clinton or Trump voter, they're typically blindsided by where we're at.

Still not a very large test, especially if the subjects are chosen at random. Might be better if they confine it at least to non-student, non-retired people.

There's no winning with statistical illiterates. Either the sample size is too small, or too random, or not random enough, or it wasn't a double blind study. 1,000 is plenty to draw conclusions from, and you'd want to have some students and retirees in there for comparison.

The control group to this study will be 1 corporation that will receive a $1 billion tax break.

I'm sure we will get UBI after the boomers have died off.
