Ex-school governor who imported child sex doll is jailed

quote [ A 72-year-old ex-school governor is given a 16-month jail sentence for importing a child sex doll. ]

Obscene objects... this in a nation where feces are put on display in a public museum.

"... and possessing 34,000 images of child sexual abuse...including 138 of the most serious kind, " the article says, yet "He was sentenced to eight months for owning the doll and eight months for possessing images."

So, he certainly wasn't innocent, and if you know shit is illegal and still do it there's a cost...but it seems to me one of those is considerably worse than the other. I guess the 10 years on an offender registry is something, but that's a lot of bad porn.

34000 images of CP? At some point you would think that there would be sort of psychological threshold that one would cross that would make them say "damn - I have a real problem here, and probably need to get some professional help."

Like maybe after the first thousand or so? But 34000? Damn.

You're not a collector, are you?

I don't care about Hot Wheels cars, but I appreciate the way those are arranged and displayed. And yes, I collect old video games and understand the collector mentality.

Or they downloaded one torrent.

I don't think this kind of digital hoarding is all that unusual. Other than the cp yuck factor, it's not really any different from people back in the Napster era downloading hundreds of albums they might never actually get around to listening to (guilty!) or people these days amassing a huge backlog of unplayed games after a couple of Steam sales and bundle deals. I doubt he actually fapped to or even looked at all 34k images, but grabbing them all while they were still available probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

Yup. I have moves I haven't watched, games I haven't played, and even cds I haven't listened to yet.

When my nieces were around 7-10 (15 years ago or so), they had life-sized dolls as big as themselves that were all the rage. I don't remember what they were called, but I'm sure many thousands of them were bought by adult men, most of them for their daughters, but some must have been for their own, um, "enjoyment." I'm guessing they didn't come with anatomically correct orifices, however.

Assuming no children were hurt in the making of it, I don't know that a child sex doll would be illegal in the US.
midden said @ 12:38am GMT on 9th Sep
I agree. I imagine they're legally treated more or less like cartoons. I was just commenting on the availability without having to answer awkward import questions.

I'm not ideologically opposed to child sex dolls being illegal, but not without some evidence that they are harmful, and I don't think that exists. The authorities seem to assume that they are a gateway to harming real children, and that's possible, but they could just as easily be to opposite - allowing paedophiles to work-off their "need(?)" in private. Just locking up a man for fucking any sort of doll sounds like prosecution of thought-crime. Afterall, being sexually attracted to children isn't illegal, just acting on it.

I can imagine any public discussion of the subject would quickly devolve to "You think it's okay for old men to fuck children do you! What about when they rape and murder your daughter!!"
the circus said @ 6:14pm GMT on 9th Sep
Is the crime the creation of something lifelike and childlike, or having sex with it? I'd think this would be hard to objectively define the line between legal and illegal.
Onix said @ 1:18am GMT on 9th Sep
I haven't seen those anymore. I guess they don't make them anymore. You really have to wonder if someone got wind of modded dolls used for sex and they decided to stop production.

my buddy™ and kid sister™, those were the "life size" dolls from the 80s/90s.

They also had a child size barbie as I recall

Those weren't life size dolls. They were nightmare fuel sent from the 7th layer of hell to torture my young, fragile imagination. I still remember the night I was babysiting my younger siblings and switching around the channels during Carson's commercials when I stumbled on the middle of a seemingly innocent scene of someone (probably a hot girl) babysitting. And then the doll got her. Fuck you, Chucky!

So, it's ok if I make a half scale, anatomically correct, silicone Elijah Wood? I'm asking for a friend.
