I would hope they allow the Americans onboard to leave if Russia decides to abandon it.

Let's invite the cosmonauts to become Americans. Cosmonauts/Astronauts are maybe the ideal citizens: rounded education, handles stress well, engineering skills, social skills, likable in tight situations, patient, multi-lingual, able to both lead and take direction, often the hearts of poets.
