Right-wing news sources compete to lie, and MAGA types will pay to be lied to the most. It's a symbiotic relationship. And nothing breaks the feedback loop, which tends towards the most barefaced level of untruth.
The news services I watch have a lefty slant, but (IMO) the facts are generally correct. But the right wing news sources peddle the level of untruth that you have to want to be lied to, to believe.
So I don't think it's optimism, as a complete embracing of "alternative" facts. Everybody you listen to is telling you that the polls are fake, and then the vote counts are fake, and then legal actions are on the verge of overturning the Democrat victory.
